Derby Safety

The Derby is a busy place, and its important to be aware of your surroundings. To ensure you're being safe, be sure to:

- Dress for the weather. Although typically warm, Nevada weather is known for changing in a matter of hours. We suggest wearing light weight, and light colored, clothing for sunnier conditions, and a light weight long sleeve and pants for stormy or windy conditions.  It has snowed over Derby weekend in the past, and thunderstorms are common in the Spring.

- Wear Closed Toed Shoes, with at least ankle length socks.

- Apply sunscreen, and consider wearing sunglasses and a hat.

- Stay hydrated, and remember to eat as necessary.

Water will be available for free at the Food Court,

and numerous water fountains can be located around the Park.

Some signs of heat exhaustion include dizziness, shortness of breath, red skin, and excessive sweating. If at any point you feel faint, please sit down and ask a Volunteer for assistance.

- Always walk with the tip of your rod up in the air, with the hook secured to the rod.
Swinging hooks can snag skin, clothing, and surfaces and lead to injury.

- Never attempt to remove a hook if injury occurs.

We have a Nurse's Station located at the front of the Pavilion,

as well as First-Aid kits at the Bait & Tackle Table and Fish Cleaning Station.

- Remember that there is absolutely NO overhand casting on the creek.

- Coolers, tackle boxes, and strollers are not permitted inside the orange fencing.

Space is limited within the fishing areas and these items tend to become trip hazards.

- If you are assisting a child angler in the Preschool area, and are in need of accommodation for mobility equipment, please speak to our event coordinators and we will gladly assist you.

- Keep on eye on your fellow Derby goers. Everyone is here to have fun and safety is our top priority. If you see something, say something -

Both On & Off-Duty Emergency personal will be in attendance at the Derby.
